Here's What to Make This Autumn Weekend

Good morning and happy Friday!

Here in Maine, I have been taking every opportunity to eat outside while the weather is still on the warm side. That's how I met my little squirrel friend pictured above. He's come to visit me a few times, and let me know that he prefers me not to spend time on my porch.

I've also been cooking with as much fresh produce from the farmers market as I can. Our warm days are numbered, and that means that the growing season will come to an end before we know it.

Meanwhile, the nights have gotten much cooler so I find myself making comfort food more and more often. There was a slap together stew last weekend that was so, so good. Might have to make it again (and write down the recipe so I can share!).

All the same, I keep thinking about my trip this summer back to the Hudson Valley in New York, where I grew up. Autumn in the Hudson Valley was my favorite season. That was the time of fresh notebooks and pens, hot apple cider and cider donuts, reading cuddled in bed, playing outside in the cooler temperatures with friends until the light faded and so many other fun things. It was also when the hills around us would change colors. Seeing the season progress on such a grand scale was magical.

Maine has a beautiful autumn too, of course.
